Standard Chartered Spore Marathon 2008

This is another event which I registered as early bird in the Full Marathon.
I have particpated in the last 3 years : 2005 & 2006 - full marathon. 2007 - Half marathon.
2008 today - instead of Full , decided to exchange with Foo Chee Chung and ran the Half marathon.

Ever since 2005, I like the clean air, water stations are abundant, impressive organisation by young students , and the commitment from standard bank that makes it a carnival-event in spore. So, this is the 4th year...

I regret to say this trip was frustrating 'cos I was over-confident of the things to come.

1. Change of Suntec City to Expo Hall - collections of BIbs . additional 30 mins to ExpoHall.
2. Technical problem while at Expo Hall - unable to collect, was made to wait outside for more than 1 hour 30min++ . Just imagine, coming from KL, keep our car in JB., take a bus across the Causeway, MRT fr Kranji to City Hall., wait for another train fr City Hall to Expo., then this...situation . I think their Efficiency is limited to 40,000 runners...but this time they accept around 50,000 runners.

3. On the way back., we lost our way finding our Oxford Hotel which is located between City Hall and Bugis Mrt station. We spend 1 hr finding it.....how to join the Amazing Race !!! heheheh

4. At Oxford, bad luck striked again. I booked thru Internet booking for separate beds.
The hotel mgmt gave it away. My friend had to settle my snoring being on the same bed.

THe RACE
In Spore, one should not drink so much prior to the race because you cannot find any place to Pee than the provided mobile toilets.
I q for the line for 1 hour ., and i join the race 15 mins later.

Overall., I still enjoy the race.
I STILL CAN RUN.

Heart Rate Monitor

This is my heart rate monitor - the watch and the strap, Nike brand.

I wear it this morning for my 10km practise run.
It was so important that I looked for it last night
WHy ???
A few days ago, I had some chest discomfort ( around the heart area ) and went to do a ECG . The doctor wants to check for irregularity of heart rythm by looking a several printed graphs and my results is OK.

I then decided to do a blood test , allowing the doctor more information to diagnose.
My test results shows all perfect EXCEPT.....
cholestrol is on high ( 4.6 ) !!!

What to do ???
On the right was my watch showing the uniform chart , for this morning run. I maintain at 150-155 bpm.
Not to excert myself too much.
Now , I begins to appreciate more of its value than before.
My cholesterol : be selective in food and plenty of exercise will helps to bring it down.
Running shall still be my passion. Please keep an eye on me !
THANK YOU.

Klang Pacers 12km Run4it.

Today is Hari Raya Aidilfitri , and the past month saw no major events being organised.

Apart in the Relay organised by the 3R circle group at Metropolitan Batu , in kepong 3 weeks ago, we continue our own training. Some of us , went to participate a run in Belimbing , Kuantan to support their event - that 's the spirit of sportmanship ( the untold story ! of every runner ).

Being a holiday today , as hardcore runners, a few of us gather to run a 10km and hill training to prepare for the next coming race in our own home ground,Klang.

The Klang Pacers Athletic Club once again will organise their own event : NEW BALANCE
KLANG PACERS 12KM RUN on 12 Oct 2008 Sunday at 7.00am

See you there!

Klang Pacers 21km & MPK 10km, Klang

LARIAN MPK.
Our pacesetters runners at the Larian MPK .
A happy runner., here I comes.

Lying on the triple chase water pool, I decide to take this shot at the trio: Lee, R'Izan and Peter.
Kind of remind of the 70's where the football stadium is a popular place for photography and the tower is the "subject" and not the people !
At last we have reached the finishing at Larian MPK. Happy to have their photos taken

SIEMENS RUN , 6/7/08

The Siemens Run was fantastic this morning.

The organiser has spend so much to create a such a fantastic atmosphere.
Victoria Instuition School Band drummers started the run at 7.30 am ., and at 9.30am, they entertained the crowd with their skills.

Siemens also organise small groups like : a group of horror dressed costumes, another group of clowns, cheerleaders which positioned themselves 2 kms before the finishing line.

It certainly motivated me to run faster , and other runners too.

They brought it the slide for the children and I saw a watertank for some dudes to sit and get others to hit the lever that drops the dude into the water ! Cool .

I remembered the last run similiar like this was my Trengganu Bridge Run many years ago where they position a school band at the half way mark and another school band to welcome at the finishing.

I wish that Siemens will do it again next year.

Note: a) Ipoh International Run was also held today too.
b) The organiser has cancelled the Jacobs Walk of Life at shah alam for safety because there are news that there will be event to protest the fuel increase.

Gunung Nuang June 2008.

Dinesh - organiser of the GN trip.,waving to me. Everything is fine.

Robin and myself at the car park early in the morning. We'r ready !

Group photo. It was unique that these group , many of them do not know each other including myself.
Group 1 = pacesetters team.( orange colour tee , include RIzan and Mona in their white and blue tee)
Group 2 = Alvin & John as a team taking this trip as part of their training to Mt.KK .
Group 3 = Ms.Lee, mum and friend as a team , also going to Mt.KK in august.
Group 4 = Simon
Group 5 = Father and son ( Seow and Sherman ), ( Chak and Robin ).
Fantastic 4, 1st timers to GN. Ms.Lee, her mum, Robin and friend...resting at Kem Pacat.
Already big achievement for Robin who has no training , and brave enough to climb.
Accept for Robin, the other members has been training weekly to prepare themselve for Mt.KK.

He is the sweeper, we always has the best team player in town.

Peter the "cool " leader loading his backpack. His backpack contains the "whole kitchen " , wont go hungry with him around. This Tai Kok always take the team up the GN and back safely. Big responsibility. Profile experience : countless time to GN.

1st time Mona (blue) checking bag before being lead by Ms.Chi .

Resting at Kem Lolo..while the rest proceed to GN. A clean place is a nice place., we spend sweeping the floor to get rid of any leeches.

John and Alvin --- this trip especially important to them, as they are climbing Mt.KK in June,2008. As I am writing this, they probably have climbed yesterday and back to KK town today.
Ms.Lee and mum team --- going to Mt.Kk in July. No problem.

Ok , let's deal .......haha ., where's myself.
This time , it was a different experience for me.
I set up the "rest" camp at camp Lolo with Mona and Ms.Chi.
By 4pm , I had to decide to get Chak, to lead Robin, Simon, Ms.Lee, mum , friend, Mona and Chi back because it takes 2 hrs to reach the base. It would be more difficult if it gets dark.
I was alone waiting at camp Lolo, my 2 friends (husband and wife) too has packed and moved on.
Resting alone was not a good idea and constant calling to Peter to determine the time he is reaching camp Lolo.
Alvin, John came down followed by the rest of the time., tired and hungry.
The maggie mee , milo and the hot chinese tea was a welcome one to them.
Hurriedly, Peter, albert, we removed the taupualin tent and packed our gear to head for home base... and the time was 6pm.
Anxiety already sank onto me as I knew that we will have to use our torchlights and estimate to reach base at 8-8.30pm.
I got lost trying to find the exit, hallucination ? just a few minutes before Peter has called out and found the exit from Campers spots near Camp Lolo.
We were relieved once we hit the trail., and by the time , we came out of the forest, it was pitch dark.
The team to Mt.KK has got their training, and we enjoy being with them.

Good luck to the Mt KK teams.

Jeram Besu, Raub 3rd May - 6 th May '08

Group photo before going for a mission..............................
Everyone has to go thru this exercise. I find it fun pulling someone off . It really helps me to overcome the fear and learn about safety. Jeram means rapids...coming.

Steady, steady, we are in control. we dont know how it looks like until we see this photo ! Wow !

Adrenalin shoots up.....dont worry we have just been trained in case the raft overturned.

Paddling away from the rapids.

Flying Fox team - Jeram Besu,Raub.

Me..haha...getting ready after climbing up flying fox station, about 3 storey high.

Hai yeah,,,, camera man toooo slow...my open legs style already done lah.

Well, I went to Jeram Besu camp training in Raub under the SLDN programme under the company HR.
On the first day, we spend whole day learning about Social skills and social values, and after dinner , we had to spend the whole night to learn map reading and compass ready.
These are camps run by ex-army , and you should know their style. I ended up sleeping at 2 am.
2nd day, we were " drop off " at a point and to move to the contact point - CP., in the jungle and using compass to get us to 2 CP. sorry to says I was not paying attention to the map reading and compass class as there many young candidates who are capable. In less than 24 hrs, we r doing practical in the jungle. We do experience difficulties in the totat darkness.
Why.lah nobody remember to take photos in the dark jungle. We had a gathering in the middle of the jungle , made fire and had our maggie noodles.
Wild boars roaming in the area --- sighted their shallow "bath tub" made by them on the ground with water in it. Water accumulated from the rain which hit us before we went into the jungle.
3rd day..we learn how to tie and make bamboo rafts.
4th day..we go for flying fox and water rafting.
Remarks: Tough and enjoyable. Hot and humid weather. Endure rain and my worst enemy - mosquitos !!!!
Well......ANOTHER PHYSICAL EXERCISE DESPITE THE FACT I AM STILL RESTING MY INJURED KNEE. I HAVE FORGOTTEN WHILE I WAS THERE. HAHA..

For 4 days of camp training in Jeram Besu, above group photo taken before going to Flying fox station. A climb up the ladder probably 3 storeys high.
